Claiming the Power Within

I experienced childhood in the 50's in a working class suburb of Chicago where every one of the houses and individuals appeared to be identical. My mom remained at home to bring up her four kids. It was a basic enough life where riding bikes and playing baseball with the neighbors on our road were ordinary. Some of the time, however, I ached for something more. It is the strange blessings sent to me by my grandma from California that started to fill that aching. From her life I started to look past what I knew and built up another method for carrying on with my life.

She resembled a champion out of a novel. Her hand-beaded, rich garments hung in my storeroom. The Native American watercolors she painted were on the dividers of my home. Her certificate from Washington State, kept in my wooden chest. It is her own journal of her movements, however, that truly held extraordinary importance:

"I set out in the late spring of 1917 on a long, languid outing down the Pacific...on one of the Toyo Kisen Kaisha steamers, that served like the enchantment wand of the pixie adoptive parent to ship me to a serious new world..."

Cleo traveled alone at 29 years old to go through four years in Panama, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. She had been appointed around then, through the University of Washington-Seattle, to examine the instructive arrangement of the different South American republics and the instructive conditions for ladies in Latin America. Her advantage and worry for the circumstance of ladies in Latin American and her objective of carrying new thoughts into the educational systems in Chile, talks about the fantasies, she held for ladies, in America, however everywhere throughout the world.

Is my grandma driving me? Is it accurate to say that she is requesting that I join her on the mission into what's to come? Similarly as she inspected the world and needed to see its new potential outcomes, I as well, am asked to live as large as the story I found in her.

I don't have to go anyplace to locate that courageous soul. The enchantment wand of the pixie back up parent is inside me. I discover it where I am and with the thoughts that address me. My grandma's life will control me to a spot I have never observed. What openings lay ahead for me is in the obscure. What I guarantee in sureness is the individual power that my grandma left for me as my voyage unfurls!
